 คำกริยาวิเศษณ์

Adverb หรือ คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ ทำหน้าที่ขยาย Verb (คำกริยา), adjective (คำคุณศัพท์) หรือ ขยาย adverb ด้วยกันเอง เพื่อให้เนื้อความของประโยคชัดเจนยิ่งขึ้น

Adverb หรือ คำกริยาวิเศษณ์ส่วนใหญ่ เกิดจากการนำคำ adjective มาเติม -ly แล้วกลายเป็น adverb เช่น

       Adjective     Adverb

• brave            bravely

     กล้าหาญ      อย่างกล้าหาญ

• Tom is a brave boy. 

       brave เป็นคำคุณศัพท์ ขยายคำนาม boy

• He fought the dog bravely to save his sister.

       bravely เป็นคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ ขยายคำกริยา fought (fight)

       

How to form adverbs from adjectives?

• In most cases, an adverb is formed by adding -ly to an adjective.

       Adjective         Adverb

 

       quick                 quickly

      

       slow                   slowly

• If the adjective ends in -y, replace the y with i and add -ly.

       easy                    easily

       noisy                   noisily

       

• If the adjective ends in -able, -ible, or -le, replace the -e with -y.       

           impossible          impossibly

       terrible                terribly

       simple                 simply

• If the adjective ends in -ic and -ical, add - ally.

       fastastic               fastastically

       medical                medically

• Some adverbs have the same form as the adjectives.

       fast                       fast

       hard                      hard

• "Good" is an adjective and "well" is an adverb. 

       John is a good football player.

       He plays football well.
